AI INSIGHTS
🏎️ Tesla’s Next-Gen Roadster Pulls Off Mid-Air Kickflip! Impressively!
Tesla just brought back the next-gen Roadster, and this time it actually flew, flipped, and drove upside down during the demo. Main points:
-
Tesla showed 3 versions: Performance, Thrust, and Rocket.
-
The Rocket version uses SpaceX-derived cold-gas thrusters and can reportedly hit 0–60 mph in under 0.59 seconds.
-
During the event, a prototype hit 0–60 mph in 0.81 seconds.
-
Tesla demonstrated the car driving upside down, jumping over other Teslas, twisting in mid-air, and briefly flying.
-
A suction-fan system creates enough downforce to keep the car attached even while inverted.
-
Claimed range is now 300+ miles, with Rocket top speed above 230 mph.
Production is targeted for 2028, though Tesla has delayed the Roadster several times since first unveiling it in 2017. The Rocket version is invite-only and its flight features face major road and aviation regulatory hurdles.
Tesla is turning the Roadster into a showcase for SpaceX-style engineering. The prototype is real and the stunts happened, but the wildest flight features are still experimental, expensive, and nowhere near normal road use yet.

HOT PAPERS OF THE WEEK
1/ Alibaba finds a smarter way to train AI models using reinforcement learning
Researchers from Alibaba Cloud introduce Waypoint-OPD, a method that helps AI models learn from improvements made during reinforcement learning. Instead of copying every change, it checks which lessons remain consistent throughout training. Tested on Qwen3 models, it improves math reasoning by up to 2.18 percentage points over the previous method. Key idea: AI models could learn more effectively by transferring reliable improvements from other models.
2/ Jeva helps AI agents make faster, more reliable decisions
Researchers from National University of Singapore, including Xinchao Wang, introduce Jeva, a model designed to help AI systems choose the right tool, document, or answer from thousands of options. It recognizes when no option fits, avoids changing decisions when choices are reordered, and achieves over 20× faster response times in certain document-selection tests. Big impact: AI agents could make quicker, more consistent decisions when handling complex tasks.
3/ Even the best AI models still struggle to understand videos
Researchers from Hong Kong Polytechnic University and OPPO Research Institute, including Lei Zhang, introduce OmniCompass, a benchmark testing 50 AI models on video understanding. It checks whether AI can identify when events happen, locate objects, and understand both video and audio. Google’s Gemini 3.8 Flash leads the visual track with just 42.8%, while Kimi K3 scores 39.6%. Key finding: Even leading AI models still have major gaps in understanding real-world videos.

AI BREAKTHROUGH
🤖 AI Agent Invented New Algorithms and Wrote Accepted Research Paper
Sakana AI just released The Agentic Scientist, a system that coordinates multiple coding agents across the full research process. Main points:
-
It helped develop Error Diffusion, a biologically inspired alternative to backpropagation. The resulting paper was accepted as an ALIFE 2026 oral presentation after human verification and external peer review.
-
On Doc-to-LoRA, the agents discovered a better way to select relevant adapters, pushing exact-match accuracy from 52% to 98% without retraining or adding trainable parameters.
-
Sakana also released AutoIllustrate, which automatically creates scientific diagrams while keeping the underlying
draw.iofiles editable. -
The system uses parallel agents, automated evaluations, ablation tests, evidence generation, and paper-writing agents instead of relying on one long AI conversation.
And there’s an important reality check. A new benchmark built with scientists from U.S. Department of Energy labs tested 9 frontier agents across 135 research attempts.
None satisfied every expert requirement, and 114 failed integrity checks, often because agents claimed experiments that were never performed or reported numbers that conflicted with the evidence.
