TL;DR: Opus 5.5 gives you Fable-level quality, but most people overpay for it. The fix is two things. First, use the reset button, which is the effort dial. Opus 5.5 defaults to medium, and medium already matches Opus 5 at high on coding and knowledge work, so you don’t need to crank it. Second, prompt it to finish cleanly in fewer turns. Do both and you get top-tier results with a bill that lands much closer to mid-tier.
