A new benchmark from Scale AI + CAIS just ran agents through real-world freelance jobs. Like some actual paid tasks from Upwork-style platforms. And guess what?
👉 The best model earned $1,810 out of $143,991 in available gigs = 2-3% completion rate. Not great. Agents struggled with:

Tasks that require multiple steps and handoffs

Ambiguous instructions (stuff humans just clarify mid-task)

Contextual judgment (like picking the right tone or style)

Iterative feedback loops (client says “ehh, try again”)
