💥 AI Browser is the Best Thing that Ever Happened to Scammers

If you thought AI was supposed to protect you from scams, nah. A new report by Guardio Labs reveals that agentic AI browsers like Perplexity’s Comet can be easily manipulated using a new exploit called PromptFix, and it’s wildly effective.

Welcome to Scamlexity. Now, y’know how CAPTCHAs are usually there to stop bots? This version uses a fake CAPTCHA to command the AI.

→ The AI sees it as just part of the page, and does it. Here’s what Guardio tested (and Comet failed):

• Fake Walmart site + simple prompt = Comet bought an Apple Watch

• Phishing email from “Wells Fargo” = Comet entered bank login info

• Hidden download prompt = Comet clicked and downloaded malware

It’s not just Comet. ChatGPT was vulnerable too. Only difference? OpenAI’s sandbox caught the download and isolated it.

Just like humans, AI agents want to be helpful. But unlike humans, they don’t pause and think. And more companies are racing to join.
