AI INSIGHTS
📰 2025 State of AI Report: How 300 Execs are Using AI
Everyone’s been hyping AI, but 2025 is all about actually building with it. ICONIQ just dropped their State of AI: The Builder’s Playbook, and it’s packed with signals from 300+ execs on how AI is really being used and scaled.
🛠️ AI-Native Teams Are Shipping Faster Than “AI-Added” Ones
Companies born AI-first are winning. 47% of AI-native startups already hit product-market fit, compared to just 13% of companies that bolted AI onto something old.
💸 AI Pricing Is a Mess and Evolving Fast → A lot of AI features are still free (for now). But 37% of companies plan to shift pricing in the next 12 months.
🧾 AI Budgets Are Now Real P&L Items → 10–20% of R&D spend is now going to AI, and that number’s rising across the board.
🏢 Internal AI Adoption Is All Over the Place
-
70% of employees have access to AI tools. Only half actually use them.
-
High-use orgs = those running 7+ use cases internally → that’s where 15–30% productivity gains are happening.
🧩 Tooling Is Fragmented, But Settling Down
Everyone’s building with their own blend from LangChain to PyTorch to custom stacks. There’s no “top tool” yet. Here’s some more key takeaways:
-
OpenAI is still the #1 model provider in the enterprise, but Claude is second.
-
Coding assistance [Cursor, Claude] is by far #1 with 33% of the total code being written by AI for high-growth startups.
Why It Matters: 2025 is the year of agents. A whopping ~90% of high growth startups are either actively deploying or experimenting with agents. And if you’re AI-native, multi-model, and talent-stacked? You’re ahead. If you’re still “AI curious” with no budget or build plan? Might be time to ship or slip.

🧠 AI Just Gave Brain Signals a Soundtrack with Real Sounds
What if your brain could talk even when your body can’t? That’s exactly what UC Davis researchers just pulled off.
Last week, a team led by neuroprosthetics expert Maitreyee Wairagkar revealed a near-instant brain-to-speech system.
It skips text entirely and translates raw brain signals directly into expressive sound, pitch, intonation, and even singing. Yes, you read that right. Singing.
Instead of decoding words into text (like Hawking’s old setup), this system goes straight from neuron to sound using a custom AI decoder plus a vocoder that matches the patient’s natural voice.
Latency? Just 10 milliseconds.
Supported vocabulary? Unlimited. You can say “um,” sing a melody, or make up a word.
So… is it perfect yet? Not quite.
In open transcription tests, listeners got around 56% of the words right. Not bad, considering T15’s unaided speech scored only 4%.
→ Still, it’s not ready for real-time conversation just yet. The next step is to scale up.
UC Davis wants to expand the system to 1,000+ electrodes, thanks to a partnership with BCI startup Paradromics, which is prepping FDA trials for an even more advanced implant.
You’ve gotta wonder: how long before Apple, Meta, or OpenAI jump into this space with their own neural vocoders?
